The St. Francis Police Department

The St. Francis Police Department was established in 1961 and was located at 2417 E. St. Francis Ave. The force was comprised of seven officers including the Chief who were responsible for protecting and serving the area previously known as the Town of Lake . Our northern boundary is commonly referred to as Bay View with the City of Cudahy bordering us to the south, and Lake Michigan to the east.

Currently, our department is comprised of twenty one sworn officers covering three shifts. The administrative staff includes the Chief of Police, Captain of Police, and Lieutenant of Police; three Sergeants supervise patrol duties as well as two investigative positions. We have seven civilian employees who are responsible for communications and clerical duties. Our volunteer auxiliary unit helps to supplement our personnel in coverage of special events throughout the year.

Accepting Applications

The St. Francis Police Department is currently accepting applications for an eligibility list.  Application must be completed and turned in by May 1, 2010.  Any questions or concerns please contact the Police Department at (414) 481-2232.

All applicants must take the Entry Level Law Enforcement Exam offered at various test sites throuhgout the state. If you have not taken it for another agency, you must let us know by March 22nd in order for us to register you for this exam on April 10th.

Recruitment of participants for our Citizens Academy

The next class begins on Wednesday, March 24th and runs for nine weeks with classes being held every Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. Topics include criminal investigations,courtroom procedures, firearms class, traffic stop demonstrations, ride alongs etc. You must be 18 years or older and either work or live in the city. Imposters- Scam Artist

There are people posing as contractors who will try to gain entry into your home. There intention is to distract you while they steal items or money or allow another person into your home to steal from you. Please make sure anyone making contact with you at your residence to solicit business has proper identification and confirm their information before conducting any business with them.    

Medication Collection:

The St. Francis Police Department will become part of the Medicine Collection Program that gives our citizens an opportunity to turn in legal presription medication to our department on every Saturday from 8:00 A.M. until 2:00P.M begining November 7, 2009. . We urge our citizens to take advantage of this program that allows for safe disposal of these medications and provides a safer enviroment.

“Project ChildSafe”

Project ChildSafe is a nationwide program whose purpose is to promote safe firearms handling and storage practices among all firearms owners through the distribution of key safety education messages and free gun locking devices . The St. francis Police Department has received gun locks and educational materials from Project ChildSafe to distribute to the community at no cost. Locks are available for both hand guns and hunting rifles. Please stop by the St. Francis Police Department today to receive your gun lock and educational kit.
