What is Neighborhood Watch?

Neighborhood Watch is a program to organize the neighborhood by getting to know your neighbors.  It is designed to reduce crime and the fear of crime in neighborhoods.  It provides a unique infrastructure that brings law enforcement, and citizens together to protect our communities.

Why start a Neighborhood Watch? By starting a Neighborhood Watch Program you will build a sense of community by connecting with your neighbors, and prevent crime.  It has been shown that neighborhoods with an active Neighborhood Watch Program can reduce incidents of residential burglary and other types of crimes.  When residents look out for suspicious activity in their neighborhood, and report that activity to law enforcement and to each other, the community feels more secure and less fearful.
The success of the Neighborhood Watch Program starts with the citizens working together with law enforcement on crime issues within their neighborhood.

* Apartment Watch

This program is similar to the residential Neighborhood Watch Program, but it deals with specific crime prevention issues that are faced by apartment tenants.

* Business Watch

Similar to the Residential and Apartment Watch Programs, the Business Watch Program will help businesses prevent crime and address issues that would directly affect a business rather than a residence or apartment. It also provides a network sharing of information to the business community in the City of St. Francis.
